kara-karina@Nocturnal Book Reviews
I’m
so excited to be a guest on Nocturnal Book Reviews today, talking
about my recently released novel, BLOOD, SHE READ.
This novel is a
little bit quirky and a little bit paranormal, with a healthy dose of
romance. In a nutshell, it is about a teen witch named Petra who
comes from a family of questionable morals and who, in an attempt to
make up for some of her past sins, decides to help a police officer
with a murder investigation—much to the annoyance of her mother.
One of the key relationships in this book is between Petra and her mother, Gina. This may sound a little boring, but I promise you it’s not. Gina is a crackpot and probably the funnest (Is that even a word? Nope, but I like it!) character I’ve had the privilege of writing, to date. She’s not your typical mother, and I think you’ll get a better sense of Petra and Gina, and their strained relationship, after you read the following:
Gina’s
top three:
- Murder her ex-husband. (He’s a crime lord so don’t shed too many tears for him)
- Create a spell to cheat the lottery and win a million dollars, or two, or three, or ten...
- Send Sebastian back to hell (they have issues, all right?)
Petra’s
top three:
- Keep her mother in check so they don’t have to keep moving like every five minutes.
- Find a way to eliminate magic from her life and from her blood—forever.
- To
be accepted at school, and in whatever town her and her mother find
themselves living in.
Sound like a mother-daughter match made in heaven? Or in hell? Be sure to read all about it.

Summary
Keeping secrets from a psychic can be murder.
Petra Maras lives a charmed life, but only in the magical sense. Her absentee father is a criminal, her mother is emotionally dead, and everyone at her new school knows she comes from a family of witches. All she wants is to be normal, but that’s impossible, given her family. And given that she’s psychic. When the police request help with a murder investigation, Petra reluctantly agrees. Which isn’t such a good idea since the prime suspect wants to date her, and she really wants to say yes. Her gut says he’s innocent, but since she can’t get a read on him she can’t know for sure. And when she discovers he’s been keeping secrets, she wonders if maybe she’s been following her heart instead of her head…

Sara,
I loved Blood, She Read, and hope to read more from you. Yes, the dynamics between mother and daugther was bittersweetly drawn...memorable.
I'm pretty sure I'd never seen this one before now but it sounds extremely refreshing and light, a perfect December read. The mother-daughter dynamics is something I enjoy reading about (as long as it's angst-free, and this certainly seems to be).
Thanks for bringing it to my attention, and for the giveaway, of course.
Sounds pretty quirky and fun, actually. Looking forward to your review of this book, K. :)
I really loved this book! So much that I just uploaded another copy on my teen's new reader, I think she will like it too. :) Congratualtions on a great first release!
Aww it's snowing!! Now you got me distracted
I know! Isn't it cool, Blodeuedd? Christmasy... ;)
Thanks for the kind comments. Blodeuedd, I just added the snow and banner to my blog, too. Sorry for stealing, Kara-Karina! But I couldn't help myself.
Don't worry, Sara! :) I'm only glad to share. These guys are brilliant!
Sounds good, and I like the main character's name. ;))
Hehe. What a coincidence. So do I. For some reason it just fit her from the moment I saw her in my mind.
