Lucas by D.B. Reynolds (Vampires in America #6)
bought
Synopsis from Goodreads
THE BADLANDS of SOUTH DAKOTA … haunting landscapes, legendary outlaws, and … vampires?
LUCAS DONLON is a Vampire Lord, one of the most powerful vampires in North America and beyond. Charming and irreverent to his friends and lovers, he enjoys everything about his life as a vampire. But when a neighboring vampire lord declares war, he soon discovers that Lucas is as every bit as lethal as he is charming.
KATHRYN HUNTER doesn’t care about powerful vampires or their wars. Her baby brother is missing and she will do anything to find him, even if it means going against both her FBI bosses and the local vampire lord. But Lucas Donlon has other plans for the lovely FBI agent who’s landed on his doorstep.
Waging war against their enemies and each other, Lucas and Kathryn will risk everything to keep the most deadly vampire war in hundreds of years from engulfing every vampire, and human, in North America.

I already said just how much I love this series despite the very unfortunate covers here and here.I was trying to analyse why this mix of urban fantasy and paranormal romance suits me so well and came up with a few points:
- the balance of power between hero and heroine. Apart from the unfortunate 3rd book Rajmund, all the women in this series are badass without being overpowering. The same goes for men. There is a great sense of equality that I don't see very often in UF and PNR where there is always some kind of dominance game going on. The main characters admit each other strengths and then work as a team against mutual enemies.
- the chemistry is unbelievable and at the same time there is always some sort of vulnerability in both characters which makes them hesitate reaching for a full blown relationship until the very end. Hell, first book, Raphael doesn't even have a happy ending! You have to read book #2 for this *grinning*
- it's all very modern and vampires utilise all the advantages of human technology instead of being stuck in Dark Ages.
So for me the paranormal romance and the urban fantasy sides of the story totally work.
Lucas has all these elements in abundance, it's also scorching hot and scrumptious when you read about both Lucas and Kathryn's interactions. The plot is pretty simple but not silly and although I wished for a deeper mystery I still read this book in one go and enjoyed it very much!
Very much recommended.
Series order: Raphael | Jabril | Rajmund | Sophia - 8.5/10 | Duncan - 8.5/10 | Lucas - 8.5/10

In case of zombie apocalypse
Hey, guys! I feel like I should say this just in case :)
If you'd like to sponsor a fellow book addict who sometimes can't sleep at night worrying that she won't have enough books to read if internet goes down in the event of zombie apocalypse (I'm convinced it's one of the top five ways to go for human race) you can donate through Paypal to olivesandacorns at gmail dot com or buy a book through any of the links provided with my reviews which will send me a small percentage from the sale. All proceeds will go towards my enormous TBR. I will also shelter you on the remote farm in Portugal when zombie apocalypse starts provided you survive getting there. There will be books, yay?
Thank you! Love you all

Well hello awesome sounding series with awful covers. I am so glad you shared this review, this has elements I love but have never heard about this or the series and oh yeah not a fan of the covers at all. Thanks for sharing!
KIMBA!!!! You have to read this! :)) Raphael is very cheap on kindle, get it. I really want to spread the love :D
Is it bad that it's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this book? Nice photoshop work. Sorry. Now I sound like a shallow reader. Glad it didn't deter you from liking the book, though. It's ALWAYS, always the inside that counts!
So glad you are enjoying these. I think this might be the first time I've seen it though. Thanks for sharing!
My all time favorite series! It just gets better and better with each book. Another great addition to the Vampires in America Series. A must read :)
The covers are SERIOUSLY unfortunate. They look like Lifetime movies or something.
Yay for equality between men and women, and also for chemistry!
