The Postman Knock #21

You remember I said I couldn't buy anything last week? Well, this week fate intervened and I managed to get some books for very little!

I've READ:

DARKNESS HAUNTS was an intriguing debut urban fantasy, and I will be definitely reading more from this author, as she's got great potential. My review will be posted next week. SKYLARK was a pretty good YA steampunk-ish fantasy, and I really enjoyed it, although I thought it was way too short! :) THE PREY creeped the hell out of me, it was such a bleak depressing and utterly awesome read! At last, CHASING DRAGONS had this contemplative, meditative cadences of Asian literature, which I really enjoyed.

FREEBIE:

I've read a great review on this novella, and since then it has been on my wishlist. This week I managed to snatch it as a kindle freebie. YAY!

BOUGHT:

Another great reduction on kindle UK from over £8 to £1.99, a book I really wanted to read but couldn't afford before.

These were 3 for £5 in The Works, and for once  I could use the offer (usually I can't find 3 books I really want to read and end up buying only one).

FOR REVIEW:

Thank you, Strange Chemistry!

This is it.
How was your week for books and everything else?
Happy Sunday!

  3. I agree I never seem to find 3 books I really want in The Works, it just depends on what they have that day I always seem to end up having to get a maybe-ish kind of book that will just gather dust in my bookshelf.

  8. I need to read my copies of The Prey and Firebird. I also loved Hemlock, surprisingly enough. Lovely, lovely haul, my dear. I hope you'll have a great week. <3

  9. I was tempted by The Firebird but I am doing well reminding myself I have plenty of other unread books on my Kindle if I just look at it now and then.

  12. Mel, it was a rare occasion, but I noticed that The Works really improved their selection in the last 6 months. They are a serious competition to The Waterstones on my opinion.

Mel@The Daily Prophecy, I saw quite a few good reviews on both books, that's why they were on my wishlist!

Lesley, I stopped buying maybe-ish books, because as you said they end up gathering dust in your library which is sad :(

    D., thank you!

Jessica, I think I remember your review! One of the reasons I've added this one on to my wishlist ;)

Ula, thanks! I am very intrigued by it.

Kat, me too. It was on my Amazon wishlist for ages...

Joy, The Prey is really chilling and scary - you'd love it!

Ellie, I had to buy it, because there is no way I'd be able to afford it at normal prices!

Michelle, I can't way to see for myself :)

Blodeuedd, *hangs her head in shame* yes, yes, I was!

  13. Hey, Kara!

Thanks for dropping by and commenting on my "Stacking The Shelves" post! And you've got a great collection here! I'm especially interested in "Skylark", "The Firebird", "Deadly Hemlock", and "Emilie and the Hollow World". I think I'll start off with "The Firebird", since I LOVE art!!

BTW, I've seen Nekro's art before. In fact, I featured one of his stunning covers for The House of Commarré series, on one of my "Shelf Candy Saturday" posts. Although I do think some of his works are a bit creepy, they're still MASTERPIECES!!

    Happy Reading!! :)

  21. Yay, deals are always exciting - especially since last week wasn't as exciting lol! Emily & the Hollow World looks great, I really want to read that one too :D The rest of these are new to me but I'll have to check out Darkness Haunts & Chasing Dragons - they sound like books I'd enjoy too!
