Storm's Heart, Clockwork Woman and Wild & Steamy mini reviews

Storm's Heart by Thea Harrison (Elder Races #2)

won from The Bookaholic Cat

Synopsis from Goodreads
During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle found sanctuary among the Wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle's death, there are those who don't want to see her ascend the throne...

Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr's best weapons. And he's the one sent to protect Tricks when she's almost assassinated in Chicago.

Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them- a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.

There is a reason why I included only Dragon Bound in my current giveaway. I nearly DNFed this book.

I don't know what happened. Dragon Bound was glorious. Storm's Heart lacked everything which made book #1 such a hit.

1. The attraction between Tiago & Tricks feels really forced. They just do not click together, and it's a torture to read about them as a couple.
2. Unfortunately the book is not fast-paced and most of it is about interactions between T & T.
3. Virtually no world-building.

I hope, The Serpent's Kiss will be better.

This was a short story which I bought during Steampunk Convival. Unfortunately the story didn't deliver what I wanted - as in plenty of steampunk gadgets and adventures, concentrating instead on fight for women's rights in 19th century, Mary Wollstonecraft's work and evolvement of an automaton's mind into an independent being.

It wasn't bad and had some interesting elements, but barely held my attention.

Synopsis from Goodreads
The Blushing Bounder by Meljean Brook - An Iron Seas novella of 15,000 words: The search for a killer puts Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth's life in danger and her assistant, Constable Newberry, in the line of fire. But Newberry faces a danger of another kind: to his heart, by the woman forced to marry him. What will it take for this prudish bounder to convince his wife to stay?

Vixen by Jill Myles - A shifter novella of 15,000 words: Miko's denied her were-fox nature for far too long and turned her back on her vixen heritage. Because the were-fox in her doesn't want to choose between both men...it wants them both.

Kitten-tiger & the Monk by Carolyn Crane - A Disillusionists novella of 20,000 words: Sophia Sidway, Midcity's most dangerous memory revisionist, seeks out the mysterious Monk in the wasteland beneath the Tangle turnpike, hoping for redemption...but it turns out that the Monk is not all that pious, and the turnpike is no turnpike at all.

Basically, Meljean Brook's short installment of The Iron Seas is very good and wets your appetite for Heart of Steel which I can't wait to read.

Vixen didn't do anything for me apart from a nice hot scene of sex.

Kitten-tiger & The Monk was excellent! It just shows what an exceptional writer Carolyn Crane is when she manages to make such a short story in something really deep, sharp and profound. I can't wait to read Head Rush!

В трёх предложениях.
