Deeper Than Midnight by Lara Adrian review

Deeper Than Midnight by Lara Adrian (Midnight Breed #9)

from the library

Synopsis from Goodreads
The ninth book in the New York Times bestselling Midnight Breed series.
In an instant her privileged world disappears and a new, dangerous and erotic one beckons…

At the age of eighteen, Corinne Bishop is stolen from her happy, loving family by the malevolent vampire Dragos. After many years of captivity and torment, Corinne is rescued by the Order, a cadre of vampire warriors embroiled in a war against Dragos and his followers.

Assigned to safeguard Corinne on her trip home is a formidable golden-eyed Breed male called Hunter. Once Dragos’s most deadly assassin, Hunter now works for the Order, and he’s hell-bent on making Dragos pay for his manifold sins. Bonded to Corinne by their mutual desire, Hunter will have to decide how far he will go to end Dragos’s reign of evil—even if carrying out his mission means shattering Corinne’s heart.

My love-hate relationship with Lara Adrian started years ago on the wave of BDB popularity. Sadly after first two-three books the series just didn't progress, so I don't have an excuse really why I am still reading it.

Book #9 is just about the same as the rest of them. The men are prone to noble stupidity, women run around pregnant and barefoot, the villain is still not getting killed and persistently annoys the hell out of me.

OK, what irks me the most is that women are just as capable as men, some of them are ex-cops or warriors, and all they do is sit in the compound, gossip and drink tea while their world is slowly going to hell...

Also passionate love moments happen at the stupidest moments when the couple should actually run for their life.

Overall, I would say that unless you like me got hooked on this series years ago I wouldn't recommend it to you. Read instead J.R.Ward who is at least entertaining or Lynn Viehl who has actually got the world-building and the character development in her books.

In case of zombie apocalypse

Hey, guys! I feel like I should say this just in case :)
If you'd like to sponsor a fellow book addict who sometimes can't sleep at night worrying that she won't have enough books to read if internet goes down in the event of zombie apocalypse (I'm convinced it's one of the top five ways to go for human race) you can donate through Paypal to olivesandacorns at gmail dot com or buy a book through any of the links provided with my reviews which will send me a small percentage from the sale. All proceeds will go towards my enormous TBR. I will also shelter you on the remote farm in Portugal when zombie apocalypse starts provided you survive getting there. There will be books, yay?
Thank you! Love you all
