The Postman Knock #28

Wow, weird week.
I feel like I'm getting ill as my hubby just recovered from his cold, so I'm sorry I've been absent from the interwebs :)
Otherwise, I've been on a bit of a steampunk binge...

I'VE READ:

I read ROUGH SURRENDER on my friend's, Betsy, recommendation and really really enjoyed it. It describes a woman pilot in 19th century Egypt and a man with light BDSM tastes. Brilliant, beautifully written book! Of course, after that I had to go and read Miss Silverwood's STEAMWORK'S CHRONICLES trilogy, which despite absolutely glorious world-building couldn't quite re-capture the brilliance of the first book I read. Still. I enjoyed it. I've also finished RIVETED, Meljean Brook's third steampunk book, and it left me absolutely enchanted with Iceland of witches and trolls Annika described. At last, THE ETERNITY CURE, was a pretty slow book for me, but I quite liked it, although I still think that 1st one was much better structurally.

 FOR REVIEW:

Thank you, Angel!

Otherwise, I've been resisting review requests all week, because believe it or not, I give the books I review such high rating for a reason. Either I choose them myself or they were on my wishlist for a long time and I've been craving reading them...

How was your week, ladies and gents?

Rammstein still totally rules after all these years. :)
Happy Sunday!

  4. I enjoyed The Eternity Cure quite a lot as Allie seemed to grow as a character.

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well - hopefully this week will be better! :-)

  5. Yay for Vigilant! ;) Can't wait to read your thoughts on it. Are you starting it quite soon? I'm reading it on the go along with other books. And of course, the rest of your books are fab!

    Stay awesome, K. :)

  8. Wow, you did go on a binge. Sometimes that's exactly what we need. :)

Rough Surrender sounds like a book I might enjoy. I hope you're not getting sick, you need to be healthy for your holidays!

  9. I need to get onto the Meljean Brooks series. I had book 1 for review when the UK imprint released it and never got around to it! Gah!

  10. Hi, Kara!

Thanks so much for commenting on my "Stacking The Shelves" post! I was VERY happy to be able to include "The Deadly sisterhood" in it! YAY!!!

I've been wanting to read "Riveted" for quite some time now. It's still on my Amazon wish list, though. As for "The Eternity Cure", I just recently found out about it, and have added it to my wish list and TBR shelf on Goodreads.

As for the Silverwood books, well, I don't read erotica, but I have to say that the male torso on the cover of "Lust Plague" looks yummy!!

I looked up "Vigilant" on Amazon, but alas, it's an e-book....and I don't like those AT ALL. If it were also in print, then I'd go for it!

    Happy Reading!! :)

  11. P.S. OMG! I just went back to the beginning of this post, and discovered that you're not feeling well! Gee, I hope you get better soon! On this side of the Atlantic, I've been fighting a very weird cold for about a month! It arrived, seemed to leave after a week, and then returned!! I've heard that a lot of people here in Miami have gotten this cold, and the same thing has happened to them.

Sure hope your cold is a SUPER FAST one!! Take care of yourself, Kara!! :)

  13. Need to check out these books - I've been quite enjoying steampunk reads as of late and always on a lookout for a great new title. Gotta get to reading Meljean Brook, I hear good things. :)

    Hope you feel better!

  14. I'll be curious to see what you think about Lawson's book. She was very supportive when a couple of self-pubs got up in arms about cover snark, so I've been eying her books. I think you liked her first one, so I hope this one's good too.

Also, I wish I had your skill at picking out books I'll like. I just am attracted to so many things and it's hard for me to tell which will actually pan out, and I'm afraid of missing out!

  15. Christina, I plan to read it next month and I'm pretty sure I'd like it. I enjoy her style of writing.
I don't know what to say to you about picking and choosing. You read and review way faster than me but at the same time I feel it puts you under a lot of pressure. It works for you but I feel older and more jaded, which make me more resentful of spending my time on books that I don't think I will like. :) So give yourself another 6-7 years and you'll become very very picky as your time for reading and reviewing shortens.
    Hugs x

  17. Thanks, Blodeuedd, Mel and Jessica!

Ula, I love Angel Lawson. She is a great author!

    Joy, you too! *wink*

Michelle, that's what I do after seeing other people's book hauls too! :)

D., it's alright. We all have different things we want to see in the books we read.

Bea, it was really good. Hope you try it! :)

Hannah, you totally should. They are great adventures!

Thanks, Maria! It was a fast one ;) I hope you are feeling well as well! You should read Riveted and other two book sin this series. It's great steampunk adventure and romance series!

Christy, YAY! I fellow fan. They are so great, I just love the sound. :)

V., I think I started steampunk in 2010 from Brook's books. She hooked me up on this genre.

Melissa, I've done it too. It's easy to get caught and read only books for review but I do want to pay attention to the books I buy too...
