Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels World #1)
boughtSynopsis from Goodreads
Some people have everything figured out — Andrea Nash is not one of those people. After being kicked out of the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea's whole existence is in shambles. All she can do is try to put herself back together, something made easier by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend, Kate Daniels.
When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano — the male alpha of Clan Bouda and Andrea's former lover — die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate ... and must work with Raphael. As her search for the killer leads her into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta, Andrea knows that dealing with her feelings for Raphael might have to take a backseat to saving the world ...

Absolutely amazing! I know that Ilona and Gordan are in a bit of a shock that the book shot off onto the bestseller list, but Kate Daniels series is well known and well loved and so many people just like me couldn't wait to get their hands on a new book even if it's not about Kate and Curran directly. My God, it was so yummy. Andrea is a fantastic character, and her interactions with Raphael are hilarious. They are both boudas, so they fight with tooth and nail, while Roman who we met in the previous book, a Russian priest of Chernobog provides magical back up sorely needed in this book.
“You will not pass!” Roman thundered.
Great. Now he had decided he was Gandalf.”
Kate fights alongside them, however the focus is completely on Andrea. There is less snark, but Andrea is pretty sarcastic when need be and Roman provides some comic relief as well. She's got this unbelievable tenacity and goes into bouda's rage when she fights for something hugely important to her.
The showdown is as spectacular as you would expect from Andrews' book, and they are also well known for not finishing the book with a cliffhanger. A MUST READ for any fan of urban fantasy. This series and its spin offs is phenomenal.

I can't wait to read this!! Like you I adore Kate Daniels and Andrea's always been one of my favourite characters. I just need to get through about 5 review books before I can start on all my own books...I think another month of happy reading in September is in order... :-)
Yay! love your review and I totally agree with you. This book was amazing and you're right I loved Andrea! And this quote was so fun, well there are a lot of fun quotes!
Mel! Step away from your review books and read it now, it's well worth it! ;)
Dehlia, I know! It was hard to choose only one quote, the humor in Andrews's books always crack me up :)
I am reading it right now.... :D
I have this in my TBR pile, maybe I should move it up. Love the Gandalf comment. :D
I really thought Andrea came into her own in the last two books with Kate, and this was a fantastic time to bring her into her own book. I did pick this one up and look for ward to reading it. Glad to hear it's so amazing. :D Thanks!
