Martial arts, magic, demons and science
The forces of Hell are poised to strike . . .
When Emma’s relatives come to visit her, they are totally freaked out by what they learn . . . Emma’s beloved, John Chen, is a 3,000-year-old Chinese god. Not only that, John is becoming weaker by the day. Demons pursue him relentlessly, hoping to use Emma and his child, Simone, as bargaining tools against him.
Emma battles to defend Simone as John’s energy is drained by the effort of both living in the mortal world and protecting them. While Emma is nagged by doubts about her own nature, she must find the courage to go on . . .

*WARNING! MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BLUE DRAGON AND THE NEXT TRILOGY JOURNEY TO WUDANG*
I swear to you, Kylie Chan is my personal crack. I plunge myself into her books hoping for some sort of satisfaction, fulfilment, but emerge dazed and confused, and longing for more.
I don't quite understand why her writing is so appealing to me, it's like a big Chinese soap opera with popcorn and Coke and everything in between...
Emma. It's like she is cursed or something. All three books I was hoping for a happy ending for her and John. Did I get it? NO! Blue Dragon ended on insanely dramatic note and what have I done? Spent foolish amount of money to get Kylie's next trilogy which is out of print at the moment and is getting republished by the end of this year.
Three more books later did I get my happy ending? Blimey, NO!

John and Emma are closer to it, but not quite there. Book #7 is still being written. Sigh.
Non-stop fights, someone gets killed or sacrifices his/her life for the greater good and then resurrects or not, Emma keeps dealing with heavenly bureaucracy and bickers with Hell to resurrect her retainers faster in an insane war with demons who use modern technology to make genetic experiments on themselves and people. Dragons, tigers, demigods, demigods' many children and wives, martial schools, police suspecting Emma of trying to get Simone's money for herself, Simone's uncontrollable powers which can destroy the world... and above it all the shadow of John everywhere and not so subtle Chinese/Hong Kong prejudices and discrimination against every other race/nation in the world.
I can continue, but unless you are already deep into these books it's hard to explain. If not, I suggest you look at White Tiger and Red Phoenix reviews first.

8/10
