YA Mystery Thriller Review: All Fall Down by Ally Carter

All Fall Down by Ally Carter (Embassy Row #1)

Egalley thanks to Orchard Books

Synopsis from Goodreads
Grace can best be described as a daredevil, an Army brat, and a rebel. She is also the only granddaughter of perhaps the most powerful ambassador in the world and Grace has spent every summer of her childhood running across the roofs of Embassy Row.

Now, at age sixteen, she's come back to stay - in order to solve the mystery of her mother's death. In the process, she uncovers an international conspiracy of unsettling proportions, and must choose her friends and watch her foes carefully if she and the world are to be saved.

Great concept, a feisty heroine, lots of action - these are all things you expect from Ally Carter's books. And I did get it. The problem is the book felt rushed and half-done. Like all the threads were left unfinished... Which is why I am giving it my lowest rating I've given Ally Carter ever.

To be honest, it sucked.

All Fall Down starts with a big mystery and a lot of questions. What happened to Grace's mother? Where is her dad? What was she doing for the last 3 years? Who is Alexei to her? Why doesn't she have contact with her brother?

Unfortunately we don't get the answers to these questions. The world-building is non-existent. Adria is a made up country of a Mediterranean type, tiny yet somehow very important. Strangely enough among all the Embassies, Iran embassy is absent. You keep getting all these frustrating holes in the plot.

The mystery itself is beautifully tangled but there are literally teasers upon teasers and not enough resolutions to make the story truly meaty. That's why I was left unsatisfied and can not recommend it to you, ladies and gents.

In case of zombie apocalypse

Hey, guys! I feel like I should say this just in case :)
If you'd like to sponsor a fellow book addict who sometimes can't sleep at night worrying that she won't have enough books to read if internet goes down in the event of zombie apocalypse (I'm convinced it's one of the top five ways to go for human race) you can donate through Paypal to olivesandacorns at gmail dot com or buy a book through any of the links provided with my reviews which will send me a small percentage from the sale. All proceeds will go towards my enormous TBR. I will also shelter you on the remote farm in Portugal when zombie apocalypse starts provided you survive getting there. There will be books, yay?
Thank you! Love you all
