Fantasy Romance Review: Eidolon by Grace Draven

Eidolon by Grace Draven (Wraith Kings #2)

Ecopy thanks to the author

Synopsis from Goodreads
In a bid for more power, the Shadow Queen of Haradis has unleashed a malignant force into the world. Her son Brishen, younger prince of the Kai royal house, suddenly finds himself ruler of a kingdom blighted by a diseased darkness and on the brink of war. His human wife Ildiko must decide if she will give up the man she loves in order to secure his throne.

Three enemy kingdoms must unite to save each other, and a one-eyed, reluctant king must raise an army of the dead to defeat an army of the damned.

A tale of alliance and sacrifice.

Sequel to RADIANCE and Book #2 in the Wraith Kings series

This book managed to move me within the first few pages, peeps. I can't think of a better praise. It's darker than Radiance, much darker, and both Ildiko and Brishen's characters reflect that. I loved that. I loved that Brishen was ruthless enough that he couldn't afford idealism of one of the other Wraith Kings. He accepted the responsibility for the life of not only his kingdom but all the others in case the horde of galla couldn't be stopped.

I loved Ildiko's huge personal growth and depth of character. She was magnificent by holding the fort when Brishen was gone and stopping the dissent in the most efficient way. Thank you, Anhuset! That must haven been a good soup. *grinning* I loved that her training came in handy too.

And of course, the setting was crazily good. Wraith Kings and their army made me want to snicker "Winter is coming!", it was that much of a George Martin moment.

All in all, it's a very fast, dramatic, emotionally intense read. The feelings are palpable here: Ildiko's, Brishen's, Anhuset's, Serovek's and many other characters.

I wasn't a big fan of Kirgipa's plotline only because it didn't live up to the intensity of the main plot, but I could understand the necessity of it. And I can only grumble about how damnably short this book felt and how madly curious I am about Meggido's fate.... but it doesn't detract from my absolute enjoyment, and I recommend this series to you with no hesitation. Beautifully written!

In case of zombie apocalypse

Hey, guys! I feel like I should say this just in case :)
If you'd like to sponsor a fellow book addict who sometimes can't sleep at night worrying that she won't have enough books to read if internet goes down in the event of zombie apocalypse (I'm convinced it's one of the top five ways to go for human race) you can donate through Paypal to olivesandacorns at gmail dot com or buy a book through any of the links provided with my reviews which will send me a small percentage from the sale. All proceeds will go towards my enormous TBR. I will also shelter you on the remote farm in Portugal when zombie apocalypse starts provided you survive getting there. There will be books, yay?
Thank you! Love you all
