Synopsis from Goodreads
When her most closely guarded secrets are laid bare, how will Kira survive the inevitable fall out—and will anybody be standing beside her in the end?
Traveling to the planet of Jettie in the hopes of finding safe harbor for her niece, Kira arrives only to find their destination host to the quorum—a series of dangerous contests that hold the power to decide the fate of empires.
With little choice but to participate, it doesn’t take long for Kira to find herself knee deep in enemies. Surrounded on all sides, Kira will have to face her worst fear. Trusting others with the truth.
Because it’s becoming clear the tsavitee are no longer content to exist in the shadows. War is coming—and everything Kira thought she once knew is about to change.

8/10
If the first book was solid 5 stars, book two and three are 4 stars in my view. Hear me out. The biggest hurdle for me was the pacing in this one which is why I was stuck on the first 15% of the book for a few weeks before persevering further. There are big lags of conversation which goes around in circles and there are short periods of pure drive which jerk me up awake like wave board running competition on Jettie for example. And you got that a lot: jerk forward, lag, jerk forward, lag. The pace was uneven, plot was overly descriptive where it didn't need to be, which is why my attention was waning, and I had to push myself to read more. Kira is at her best when she moves, fights, destroys, goes on pure instinct. Her fight scenes, her puzzle solving scenes were fab. Even the sex scene with Graydon was lovely. *gasps* There were really interesting characters, Skye, Tierni, Lieven, who had very little limelight. There were also annoying Tuann who kept trying to get involved into pissing contests with Kira whom I cared nothing about. There were also mentions of forty three, which I assume will play a prominent role in the next book. I really love this series, folks, and I feel like the pace and the plot needs to declutter and up the action for the next book to get back into 5 star category. I'll keep my fingers crossed and carry on reading! Recommended with a few reservations. |
Despite the issues with the pacing, the series as a whole sounds good.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! It totally reminded my of Ilona Andrews' writing style.
