The Postman Knock #36
First off, here is my glasses. Let's get it over with, right?
Secondly, two very happy things happened to me this week:
I bought myself Kindle Paperwhite. Yes, I caved in at last only because we're moving and I will be weaning myself off physical books as a result. Why? No space to keep them and the postage is very expensive where we will be living. I still have 34 paperbacks to go through but it's manageable.
Anyway, it's a thing of beauty and I really love it!
What's my other happy thing?
I got blurbed on a front cover from one of my favorite authors.
I just. Can't. Still get very emotional.
Thank you so much, Michelle!
So, let's get back to business now.
Here is what I'VE READ:
THE VAMPIRE VOSS was readable but pretty average so I would not recommend it, especially compairing to Gardella Vampire Chronicles series by the same author. HUNTED was as good as I expected, but while I enjoyed it I still don't like the direction the series has taken because it lost something essential. FORSAKEN BY THE OTHERS was unexpectedly short, but I enjoyed it to a solid 4 stars. Poor Shiarra just doesn't get a break :( At last, I took perverse pleasure reading AFFLICTION. You know why? Because it was as bad as I thought it would be! *grinning*
DNF:
Quite a lot this week I know! Nothing was wrong with DISCONNECT - I just wasn't interested at all unfortunately. DEATH'S ANGEL was so built on various cliches I just got tired of constant eye rolling, peeps. At last, I was sad to let THE NECKLACE OF THE GODS/EONA go... I loved EON and was looking forward to reading book two, and I managed to read about 70% of the book but I absolutely hated the love triangle. Could not stand it. And because of that I stopped reading.

This is it! Here is a gorgeous Swedish duo, whose music I've just discovered. These two gals are amazing!
Happy Sunday!
Oh, how awesome. Congrats on the blurb and the new Kindle! I know you will love it, I rarely part with my Kindle - so convenient!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the mention on the blog cover - that must have made your day, week, month ... year! Yay to that!!
ReplyDeleteAlso love the look with your new glasses. It gives you that certain (librarian) something which fits every bookworm I'd say! ;-)
And you're moving? Where to? You are staying in the UK, right?
Congrats on being on the cover - that is so awesome! Being quoted is just great - I'm so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the blurb, I know how exciting it is to be mentioned. Love the new glasses, I got some when I was 16 and only just started wearing them permanently about 3 years ago.
ReplyDeleteGreat haul as usual, I hope you enjoy them all.
Check out my haul
Congrats on the blurb, that's so exciting and amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love First Aid Kit! Have you seen them performing Dancing Barefoot for Patti Smith?
no place to keep books... it would be a nightmare for me but i'm glad you found a way around the problem ( still that's print books ç_ç) i'm curious as where you will be moving too if it's not top security confidential
ReplyDeleteOhhh blurbed! My dream to be
ReplyDeleteVika, you are right - it's super convenient. My fear now is that I won't read all my paperbacks with it though! :)
ReplyDeleteBirgit, rural Portugal. No proper address. That's why ordering will be complicated, but with kindle you'd only need Internet :)
Thank you, Mel!
Michelle, I am still getting used to the feeling, but I like them! :)
Petra, I have! That's actually how I found them. They blew me away with that performance!
Miki, not really :) Portugal, but as I said above I'm happy with kindle solution.
Blodeuedd, keeping fingers crossed for you :)
Ohhhh ... Portugal! I have heard they have "funny" addresses for people living in the middle of nowhere in Portugal, usually only a street name without a number. Or how about a fun fact from Austria? Some towns are so small there are no street addresses, instead you only have the town name plus a number and that's it. :-D
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the moving too! Must be a drag to pack up all your belongings to move to mainland Europe, but judging from recent vacation pics I'd say you do love Portugal, am I right or am I right?
Haha, Birgit you are spot on! Most people have only street as their address, so we will have to have a PO box, but it's so well worth the minor inconvenience. We are looking at total life change and an early retirement, and I just can not wait - super excited! :) I haven't started packing yet, but we will be taking only bare minimum with us, the rest can be acquired over the years. We've done it twice before with only suitcases on our backs. So this time going with a caravan feels like pure luxury :))))
ReplyDeleteKarina, I'm the grateful one. It was pure serendipity, my cover designer emailed to say there was room for a quote, and you had one for me, so thank you!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I still have a huge smile on my face. I'm glad to be in the right place at the right time :) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will be happy there but it's true the postal service will be a little more difgficult, we will keep with teh emails and no letters then ^^ i don't think i would dare to move even less without all my things
ReplyDeletei wish you a lot of happiness
Thank you, Miki! And it's really not very difficult to move and quite liberating as well if you ever want to do it! :)
ReplyDeleteHOLY COW!!! Front cover blurbage! That's awesome!! Yay for you!!!
ReplyDeleteCool glasses too! Very snazzy!
Nice haul!! I still need to read Hunted and I really liked Forsaken by the Others! It was great!
Happy Reading!
Here's my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
What? You moving to Portugal? How cool! Good luck with the move then :-)
ReplyDeleteRe: Kindle, I know what you mean, but I'm sure you will find the time to read your papebacks just as well. Although, I must say after awhile it starts feeling strange to hold a real book.
Love the glasses btw. ;-)
Thanks, Jessica! :)
ReplyDeleteVika, my husband already jokes about it :)) I'm loving how easy it is to carry it around and read my review books. We'll see how it goes with the paperbacks in a few years I guess :)
Glasses are awesome. *high five* Oh, where are you moving? :o And the front cover quote thing is VERY cool! :D Go you, lady!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I really need to get hold of Kevin Hearne's books. I hear so much good about them from all sorts of fantasy lovers.
Congrats again on the book quote, that is fantastic! I'm so happy for you. I think your glasses are cute. :)
ReplyDeleteHunted, yeah, I'm not sure about the changes. I still enjoy the series, and Affliciton, HAH! you crack me up. :D I gave up several books ago.
happy Sunday!
I forgot about affliction, I need to read it too. is it that bad? Again? lol I keep hope
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the quote..how lovey!!! Hope you love your kindle and ooh your book haul is filled with goodness! I cannot wait for the reviews! Enjoy your week! The Sunday Post
ReplyDeleteI love your glasses! And congrats on the blurb - it's such an awesome feeling :)
ReplyDeleteSo jealous of you moving to Portugal - all that sun and peace and quiet *sighs*. You'll find a way to get books, don't worry ;-)
Congrats on the blurb, that is just awesome! :D
ReplyDeleteNice haul. Moving can be stressful and sometimes having lots of books is hard. Great haul. See lots of awesome pretties that I want. Come visit me as well.
ReplyDeleteGrace
Love the new glasses and congratulations at being on a front cover, you know you will need to buy a copy and somehow frame it!
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a few DNF books this week you are ruthless I love it!
Love your glasses. So sassy and red. Fab!
ReplyDeleteAlso, so excited about the blurb, though the cover itself made me snicker. I'm so evil. :-p
Congrats on your ebook reader. :) Hope you love it.
ReplyDeleteAnd love the new glasses! Have a great week.
O wow a Kindle! One day I know I will have to give in as well, but for now, thousands of paper books are still waiting to be read. Congrats on the blurb! That is so awesome!
ReplyDeleteI very much want to read Affliction, as I really love the series.
Aurian, I could have a whole discussion about Anita Blake here, better not to get me started! :) I'm one of those who loves the series to bits for the first 9 books, then it just got worse and worse and worse :) I'm still reading it but just because I really love the world created here. And Jean-Claude :)))
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa! You too.
Christina, LOL. At least, it's a redhead! *and the crowd goes wild*
Lesley, as soon as it's available, I'll buy the paperback of course :)
Hi, Grace! That's why 'm moving the future books to my kindle :D
Mel, thanks!
Kat, that's what made it so appealing for me :) Come for holidays, sweetie! I might do a reading retreat :D
Kimba, you too, sweetheart, enjoy your week!
D., it's bad but not as bad as a previous one. LOL
Bea, I must be a masochist because I could have sworn I gave up after the previous book.
Han, *high five back* I'm reserving first Kevin Hearne for you, sweetie along with The Chemickal Marriage. Will send them to you before we move.
Vika, I love my paperbacks, but having a kindle has become a necessity unfortunately...
Jessica, I am quite sure you'll enjoy both! :)
ReplyDeleteAwww, much love <3
ReplyDeleteWhich one did I have that you wanted again? Has slipped my memory.
