God, the sheep story!.. Worth it on its own! I also loved the gals going to Brighton where I used to live, it was recognizable and at the same time I could see it with new eyes. I loved how the huntress underestimated Cass and couldn't believe that she was a girlfriend of both Cain and Laclos. I giggled to myself especially considering the backstory. Overall, this is an excellent collection of small stories, and I am so hungry for a new book in this excellent series, that reading such tasty tidbits only makes me more frustrated.

Synopsis from Goodreads
Louie Cogburn had spent three days holed up in his apartment, staring at his computer screen. His pounding headache was unbearable - it felt like spikes drilling into his brain. And it was getting worse. Finally, when someone knocked at his door, Louie picked up a baseball bat, opened up the door, and started swinging....

The first cop on the scence fired his stunner twice. Louie died instantly. Detective Eve Dallas has taken over the investigation, but there's nothing to explain the man's sudden rage or death. The only clue is a bizarre message left on his computer screen: ABSOLUTE PURITY ACHEIVED
And when a second man dies under near-identical circumstances, Eve starts racking her brain for answers and the courage to face the impossible...that this might be a computer virus able to spread from machine to man....

Another book in series, another computer crime. Fascinating plot, and I enjoyed that Trueheart got to play a good role. Roarke as usual helped and Eve kicked butt. Excellence all around!

Ещё одна книга серии, расследующая компьютерные преступления. Жутко интересный сюжет, Трухарт играет хорошую роль, Роарк помогает, а Ив как обычно поддаёт всем под зад. Читалось на одном дыхании.

Synopsis from Goodreads

YOU'VE GOT MAIL meets HOW TO EAT A CUPCAKE in this delightful novel about a talented chef and the food critic who brings down her restaurant—whose chance meeting turns into a delectable romance of mistaken identities.

In downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lou works tirelessly to build her beloved yet struggling French restaurant, Luella’s, into a success. She cheerfully balances her demanding business and even more demanding fiancé…until the morning she discovers him in the buff—with an intern.

Witty yet gruff British transplant Al is keeping himself employed and entertained by writing scathing reviews of local restaurants in the Milwaukee newspaper under a pseudonym. When an anonymous tip sends him to Luella’s, little does he know he’s arrived on the worst day of the chef’s life. The review practically writes itself: underdone fish, scorched sauce, distracted service—he unleashes his worst.

The day that Al’s mean-spirited review of Luella’s runs, the two cross paths in a pub: Lou drowning her sorrows, and Al celebrating his latest publication. As they chat, Al playfully challenges Lou to show him the best of Milwaukee and she’s game—but only if they never discuss work, which Al readily agrees to. As they explore the city’s local delicacies and their mutual attraction, Lou’s restaurant faces closure, while Al’s column gains popularity. It’s only a matter of time before the two fall in love…but when the truth comes out, can Lou overlook the past to chase her future?

Set in the lovely, quirky heart of Wisconsin, THE COINCIDENCE OF COCONUT CAKE is a charming love story of misunderstandings, mistaken identity, and the power of food to bring two people together.

This was as lovely as promised by synopsis. Lots of gorgeous food - cooking and eating, a case of mistaken identity, a man who becomes a better version of himself the more he appreciates life, and a recipe for a coconut cake in the end. Wonderful, comforting, sweet book! Totally recommended as pick-me-up.
