I am less of a paranormal romance and more of an urban fantasy genre kinda girl, but there are exceptions of course. Bec McMaster is one of them. 

Since I read her Kiss of Steel, I never looked back. Her characters are vibrant, sexy, full of backbone. Her world-building is rich and concise. And the romance is scorching hot. Heart of Fire might feel a bit short, but delivers all that.

Freyja is a tough, fierce maiden with unknown magical powers which she doesn't dare to explore. Something to do with her mother's secrets, but the plot does not reveal it to the fullest. 

Rurik is a dragon prince in exile, depressed and apathetic, until meeting enraged Freyja ignites a spark in him and gives him something worth fighting for.

The secondary story of the dragon hunter's quest and underlying political intrigues in the dragon court is fascinating and made me wish for a longer story, however, as it is only the first book in the series I expect it'll go into more depth in later books.

I loved how the matter of consent and courtship was handled here. Rurik is patient and wise enough not to push Freyja into anything. She suffered from a wrong kind of a man before, and he sees the importance of her being in control of her pace and desires. All good characters here treat women with respect, actually. And the scumbags who abuse and demean them, get what they deserve.

There are also no stupid misunderstandings or irrational decisions. The protagonists think of what they need to do to help each other. I loved how reasonable Rurik could be or how cold with rage and badass Freyja could become. You go, girl! 

Fabulous, short, easy read. Recommended!

Я в общем-то больше фанат городского фэнтези, чем паранормального романа. Однако Бек МакМастер - исключение. Как я прочла годы назад её "Поцелуй Стали" назад я уже не смотрела. Её протагонисты очень яркие, горячие, волевые. Её построение мира - богатое и чёткое. Сам роман между героями тоже сплошные магнетика и огонь. "Сердце Огня" может и немного коротковат, но до читателя все это доносит.

Фрейя - очень сильная, упрямая и темпераментная девушка с таинственным магическим даром, который она боится исследовать. Как-то это связано с наследием её мамы, однако сюжет не успевает это разъяснить.

Рурик - дракон принц в изгнании, депрессивный и апатичный, пока встреча с Фрейей не разжигает в нем искорку и не даёт ему что-то, за что ему стоит бороться.

Второстепенный сюжет с охотником за драконами и политическими интригами очень интересны и, я так понимаю, будут раскрыты в книге следующей.

Мне понравилось как автор описала темы согласия и ухаживания. Рурик ни на что не толкает Фрейю, которая пострадала в прошлом от гнилого отношения к ней мужчин. Он знает что ей важен контроль над собственным телом и желаниями, поэтому она задаёт темп в их отношениях. В то же время, оба героя очень рассудительны и не оставляют места недопониманию. Рурик показывает свою мудрость, а Фрейя очень круто передаёт свою ледяную ярость их общим врагам, показывая, что с ней нельзя не считаться.

Лёгкий, короткий, интересный паранормальных роман. Рекомендую!
