Fantasy Romance Review: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (A Court of Thorns and Roses #2)

bought on audio

Synopsis from Goodreads

Feyre survived Amarantha's clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can't forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

With more than a million copies sold of her beloved Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas's masterful storytelling brings this second book in her seductive and action-packed series to new heights.

By now it's easy to see a pattern in Miss Maas' heroines. They fall in love with the wrong person on their first try. They fall for self-righteous, pompous jerks with a bad temper. Chaol, anyone? Tamlin? I'm not sure I approve of this pattern, especially, after the sacrifices made by the heroine.

A Court of Mist and Fury starts with Feyre in a bad place physically and emotionally. She has to come to terms with her new self: her experiences and her immortality changed her, added more shadows and darkness. Perhaps, that's why she notices things in Tamlin she was too blindsided to see before.

Enter lovely, snarkalicious Rhysand who is much more in tune with new Feyre. It's like watching Buffy with Angel Vs. Buffy with Spike. A completely different dimension.

Once the plot starts moving, it MOVES. I could not put this audiobook down. The romantic line was done really well, and even sex felt organic and not the flowery over the top nonsense I was mentally preparing myself for. Overall, great, very much recommended. Read it!

In case of zombie apocalypse

Hey, guys! I feel like I should say this just in case :)
If you'd like to sponsor a fellow book addict who sometimes can't sleep at night worrying that she won't have enough books to read if internet goes down in the event of zombie apocalypse (I'm convinced it's one of the top five ways to go for human race) you can donate through Paypal to olivesandacorns at gmail dot com or buy a book through any of the links provided with my reviews which will send me a small percentage from the sale. All proceeds will go towards my enormous TBR. I will also shelter you on the remote farm in Portugal when zombie apocalypse starts provided you survive getting there. There will be books, yay?
Thank you! Love you all
