Synopsis from Goodreads
, Lane Cannon, dares to flirt with her, she shuts him down cold. Too gorgeous. Too cocky. And his job as The Grove’s sexual surrogate is to sleep with patients. No, thank you.

Former escort Lane Cannon has spent enough years with people looking down on him. Stupid. Trailer trash. Rent boy. He’s heard it all. He’s worked too hard to shed his past to let some haughty doctor cut him down. But something about Elle’s ice queen act has his dominant instincts perking up and his body taking notice. He can’t walk away.

After an evening of verbal sparring turns into a night of steamy hate sex, Lane’s ready for round two. But Elle proposes a business deal. How better to keep things strictly physical than to pay him for his services?

Lane wants her, not her money. But he’ll play along in exchange for one thing—all the control. It’s only supposed to be a dirty little fling between colleagues, but these two are about to learn a lesson in love…by the hour.

Dedicated to my friend, B., a closet fan of erotic romance, who keeps pestering me to post another review soon.

I like how you always know where you stand with Roni Loren. She consistently delivers good, complex, thought-provoking characters in subversive, steamy situations.

I especially enjoy this series as it deals with mental disorders of various kind and many insecurities the therapists themselves battle.

Elle is a top specialist in her field and she is quite clear about her triggers and social anxieties, as in she sees where they are coming from but she is not willing to work on them. She is attracted to Lane, perversely, as he is a surrogate - someone who helps people overcome their intimacy issues through physical intimacies. He does not have sex sex with people but there might be a lot physical touching and closeness involved between him and his patients. As Elle's ex-husband cheated on her, Lane's job hits Elle's insecurities pretty hard.

Lane on the other hand has his own baggage where he wants to prove to people he is worth more than just his body, but he can not move further in his profession without admitting that he has learning difficulties so as to make allowances for the way he studies for his degree.

Surprisingly, seeing each other weaknesses and feeling the need to help overcome them makes Lane and Elle a very efficient duo with a lot of things in common.

Don't get me wrong, the bedroom scenes are steamy but the really fascinating stuff is what's happening in their heads and their personal growth.

A very believable couple, fabulous dominance games without any submissiveness from a female character which went well with her need to shut her brain off during sex, and of course a lovely story of finding each other against all odds.

Thumbs up, very much recommended.

Off The Clock (Pleasure Principle #1)
