Last month when Cindy C. Bennett posted her 10 Must See Movies for The Geek in You, she mentioned Pretty in Pink, and I have to say she got me intrigued.
I've managed to rent it and just finished watching it.
What a sweet, gorgeous movie. They just don't do them like that anymore.
Andy is absolutely stunning. All that red hair, her amazing sense of style, which makes her a pariah in her school, her quiet confidence. You pretty much watch the whole movie because of her and her best friend's outrageous antics.
I always had a soft spot for the quiet but self-assured girl with the glasses, and this was just the thing.
Andy's friend, Duckie, is great. He's been secretly in love with her for years, but he cannot bring himself to tell her how he feels. The rich boy, Blaine, who really likes her, is sweet, although very weak-willed, but they do feel for each other and their first kiss is brimming with emotions.
Another rich boy whom Andy constantly refuses, can't stand that his friend going out with Andy, and makes Blaine choose between his friends and her...
What I like that it's all very subtle, not stupid and not malicious, and the characters have depth.
Andy's clothes are to die for. Honestly, I adore vintage, and she picks amazing ensembles to wear...
She is just so different from the rest of the girls with their awful hair, bland clothes, and slutty attitudes the boys really can't resist her :)
Adorable.
Very much recommended.
9.5/10
Oh Kara, you make me feel all of my 40 years talking about vintage clothes - from the 80's. LOL
ReplyDeleteI was 15 when Pretty in Pink came out and I absolutely loved it - still do! But in my heart of hearts, I always wished that Andie would have ended up with Duckie. :)

It's true, they just don't make movies like that anymore! I also love "Sixteen Candles " and "The Breakfast Club" - those are real classics from the 8os so if you haven't watched them you better do so straight away!!!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, lol. I was born in 1980, so I did manage to wear some of these clothes too :) and I agree with you, Duckie was way more interesting than Blaine :)
ReplyDeleteBirgit, I saw Breakfast Club, but missed out on Sixteen Candles. I have to watch it!
I always loved this movie so I'm very happy you liked it so much! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right, they don't make movies like that anymore and it's a shame... The 80s remain the best! ;)
