 I can tell you this, Cat Clarke's voice is very compelling, very powerful and strong.

The only reason I gave this book a lower rating is predictability of the plot. Once you figure everything out, the book drags and drags until finally! you have that big revelation in the end.



However, you can feel Grace, you live in her skin and you understand emotional turmoil this girl has lived in since her dad died. She is damaged, traumatised and the only way for her to release all these complex overpowering emotions inside her is to cut herself and to keep the facade of reckless debauchery everyone else sees in her.

All the teenage traits are here - the endless drama, extreme intensity and belief that nothing is ever going to happen to you, that inner hope that you are immortal. I actually loved Grace's voice and her take on the world.

Again, I have to admire the darkness and grittiness of British YA fiction. It seems to be right into your face, no smooth corners, no quarter given, - and I love that everything is so out in the open, so rough.

If you like this, read Tom Pollock, Rachel Ward and C.J.Daugherty. Recommended.

Характерно для британского YA,  - жестко, очень реалистично и никакого умалчивания неудобных тем для разговора.

Мне кажется, что нам, русским, европейская литература для подростков от того и более близка, всё-таки на американских книжках для тинэйджеров стоит налёт пуританской сдержанности и так как те же англичане они не открываются.

По крайней мере, я почему-то всегда даю британским авторам YA оценки гораздо выше, чем американским, за несколькими исключениями.

Вот и в Entangled голос Грэйс, 17-летней главной героини очень силён, прямо залезаешь ей под кожу и понимаешь мотивы её поведения. Понимаешь почему Грэйс после самоубийства отца находится в таком эмоциональном состоянии, что только постоянные порезы, что она себе наносит, позволяют высвободить ворох чувств, что закупорен у неё внутри.

Грэйс на поверности - типичная плохая девочка, она много пьёт, спит с незнакомцами и цинично заявляет, что не верит в любовь. Однако под культивированным фасадом таится очень хрупкая и очень умная девушка, по крайней мере, все её оченки в школе отличные, и вот эта особа начинает из своей скорлупы вылезать когда находит друга в Сал и влюбляется в харизматичного Ната.

Я поставила заниженную оценку этой книге только из-за того, что сюжет легко предсказать достаточно рано, и поэтому повествование тянется и тянется пока наконец-то не доходит до разоблачения большого "секрета", и на тот момент когда хочется узнать побольше и поподробнее, - книга заканчивается.

В остальном, прекрасно написано и я рекомендую её всем поклонникам Тома Поллока, С. Дж. Догерти и Рэйчел Уорд. Читайте!
