The Renfield Syndrome by J.A. Saare (Rhiannon's Law #2)

Synopsis from Goodreads
Vampires, and werewolves, and demons, oh my.

Rhiannon thought facing off against a deranged child vampire was the most dangerous task she would ever have to undertake, but she’s about to discover making a deal with a demon is far, far worse. Sent forward into another reality, one in which vampires are now dominating nearly extinct humans, she realises the sooner she returns to her vampire lover, Disco, the better.

Unfortunately, time changes a lot of things; including those most trusted around her. When she’s faced with a loss and betrayal unlike any she has ever known, her focus shifts from severing the debt between the demon that wants to kill her, to exacting a revenge that will bring forth consequences she never could have fathomed. By reaching out to the darkness lingering within her, she’ll find the strength to push forward despite the circumstances that would see her dead and buried.

After all, when it’s all said and done, all that she has left to lose is her soul.

This book is absolutely insane. Deliciously so.

Right from the beginning when Rhiannon is transferred 100 years in the future the whole book is a blur. Everything is moving so fast your brain stumbles. It's like WHAT?! HOLD ON... WHOA, WHAT? SAY AGAIN?

I think I simply inhaled this book I read it so fast. Definitely an improvement over the first one, although a lot of things are not explained: for example, extra speed and healing abilities Rhiannon seemed to have picked up in the future.

Despite the idiot testosterone filled men surrounding her the girl is a total bad-ass, ruthless, snarky and bloodthirsty. I loved her!

It's the men I had issues with. They don't listen to her, it's like they are not only deaf, but brain dead as well. There is a Huge Misunderstanding, bouts of rage and a bad possessive streak... *sigh* I really wanted to shoot them all - Carter, Payne and Disco, and be done with it.

Also Rhiannon went out of her way to save Disco and then when he behaved like a jealous jerk for a millisecond she wanted to have nothing to do with him. Talk, people, talk! Communication is the key, for God's sake!

Apart from that I highly recommend the book for all UF fans. Its a fast and furious ride if you feel like it *wink*

  2. It's very snarky and funny, but also insanely fast-paced, I'm pretty sure you will like it, Giselle! Especially Rhiannon's laws :)

  3. Oh I really need to try this series, it sounds awesome. I keep hearing great things about it. I don't even know why it's not done yet.

  4. I read the 1st book in this series and I thought it was a fairly decent read, but it didn't compel me to pick up the sequel. Plus, I don't remember exactly why but I wasn't all that fond of Disco.

Btw, repeated (unnecessary) non-communication for the sake of creating angst, conflict, and drama irks me. I see it too often in paranormal romance. I think this 2nd book would frustrate me.

  5. I wasn't fond of him too, Marg, as far as I remember. It's not the best UF I've ever read but I like that it was explosive and snarky. Sometimes it's all you ask for :)
