Synopsis from Goodreads
Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?

Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.

And desperate times call for Cletus Winston.

Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So... what’s a maniacal mastermind to do?

Likely, the last thing you expect.

'Beard Science' is the third book in the Winston Brothers series, is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be read as a standalone.

You know, I finished Beard Science couple of weeks ago and had to keep radio silence for a bit. Never mind that I was suffering from a toothache and couldn't think straight, this was my PRECIOUS, dammit, and I wasn't ready to share the FEELS!

So what I did instead was going back and re-reading other Penny's books in  random order, and what I noticed was how much the quality and intensity of her writing increased with each new book. Therefore, it's safe to assume that Beard Science is Penny's best work to date. (I still gave half a point less to this book than to Beauty and The Mustache, because poetry slays me, and I loved that book just a teensy bit more).

Cletus has always been this diabolical, hidden in plain sight, banjo playing genius of a character we were all in love with and in awe of. What Penny did in this book was humanise him. He met his match. This impossible, timid, puzzling slip of a girl, who made him feel out of control.

Jennifer was absolutely freaking fantastic! First of all, so much hidden depth! Wowza. Under the facade of a Southern belle she is suffering and suffocating, fighting the role her parents appointed her. She is desperate to discover hat she really likes and wants. She is an amazing baker, an observer of human nature, and I loved that she had pen pals and could converse with them in Japanese and French. Beyond cool.

To see her getting out of her shell and embracing her own eccentricity was wonderful, for Cletus and for us, readers. I also loved how she curtailed some of Cletus's more outrageous machinations. That man didn't know when to stop sometimes.

I didn't want Beard Science to stop and felt like some of the plot threads would have benefited from more development, but as it's an ongoing series, I'm sure I'll get my wish at some point.

Overall, this was freaking adorable, and I want more Cletus and Jenn. READ IT!
