Damian Blog Tour Stop: a Mini-Interview with D.B. Reynolds and a Giveaway!

Hey, folks!

You know how much I enjoy this author, right? Her VAMPIRES IN AMERICA is a fantastic blend of paranormal romance and urban fantasy, and by this I mean that it combines an adrenaline-fueled rush of action, tough heroines, powerful heroes and sizzling hot romance to the delight of fans of both genres. If you are a fan of sci-fi genre, she also wrote an absolutely kickass SHIFTER PLANET, which was one of the best reads for me in 2015.
So, when I heard that there will be a spin off of Vampires in America and it will involve sorcery, I couldn't contain my excitement. You do not need to read the previous series to understand Damian, but it sure helps to understand Nick Katsaros and his backstory (at least read COMPELLED, a novella before Damian).

Anyway, DAMIAN. So much potential for deliciousness here, peeps! Having read and reviewed it, I can't wait for the next book in series. This series is going to be a winner.

Summary
It was a time when gods walked the earth, when armies fought not for bits of land, but for the very existence of humanity. On such a battlefield, five formidable warriors stood against an evil greater than any the earth had ever seen. But evil is not an honorable foe. Betrayed by someone they trusted, the warriors were cursed, one by one, tossed into the maelstrom of time, imprisoned in stone, their freedom resting on nearly impossible conditions. Until . . .

Damian Stephanos honed his skills in battles fought with magic as much as swords. Caught by a deadly spell that left him trapped for centuries in darkness and obscurity, he is finally freed, only to discover that his enemy still lives. Determined to find him—and to free his brothers in arms—he first must fulfill his blood debt to the woman who released him from his torment. Unfortunately, being so close to this enticing female is another type of torment altogether . . .

Cassandra “Casey” Lewis is a hunter. Possessing the rare ability to sense magic, she spends most of her time shadowing arcane collectors, and more often than not, stealing the dangerous artifacts she pursues. Her job is risky, especially when she’s stealing from one of the most powerful sorcerers alive. But having a gorgeous warrior by her side is a definite bonus. He’s great in a fight . . . and in other places, too.

Following a trail of dead bodies, the two of them must join forces to track down the sorcerer who cursed Damian, and who now plans to turn an ordinary magical device into a deadly weapon. Risking everything, including their hearts, they’re about to discover that trusting each other might be the hardest thing of all.

I was bursting with curiosity so I badgered Donna with a few questions...

Welcome back to the blog! So, what's the dish on Nick Katsaros? Have you always known there is more to him than met the eye or he just evolved as a character in your head into someone new one day?

Thanks for having me again, Karina.

As for Nick Katsaros, I always knew there was something more going on with him, that's why, when he left Cyn's condo on the "morning after" in RAPHAEL, I had her thinking about how Nick exuded a "dark masculine energy," and then when he drove off in his Ferrari, how he took all that energy with him and left "an empty feeling behind." Cyn didn't realize it then, but she was sensing his magic, and missing it when it was gone.

How did the idea for Stone Warriors come to life?

While I always knew Nick was a sorcerer, he needed a back story to make him interesting. I didn't want him to be just another magic user, and I'm a sucker for a tragic history. As with so many of my ideas, the inspiration for my stone warriors came to me in the shower. All that pounding hot water must be conducive to free-floating consciousness. I've had the notes for my stone warriors sitting on successive computers for years, and I'm so happy that I finally have the chance to share their stories with my readers.

And last, a small peek ahead. What shall we expect after Damian and how many books are in this series?

The series will be five books total, with the four Stone Warriors getting their books, and then Nick getting his HEA in the fifth book. The next book is teased at the end of DAMIAN (because that's what I do) and it's going to feature the youngest of Nick's warriors, Kato Amadi. He's described in COMPELLED as reveling in the bloodshed of the battlefield, and in the violence that feeds the dark magic residing deep in his soul.

D. B. Reynolds is the RT Award-winning author of the Vampires in America series of paranormal romance, and an Emmy-nominated television sound editor.
