Urban Fantasy Early Review: Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop

Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop (The Others #3)

Egalley courtesy of Penguin Publishing Group

Synopsis from Goodreads
The Others freed the  cassandra sangue  to protect the blood prophets from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences. Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before—both from their own weaknesses and from those who seek to control their divinations for wicked purposes. In desperate need of answers, Simon Wolfgard, a shape-shifter leader among the Others, has no choice but to enlist blood prophet Meg Corbyn’s help, regardless of the risks she faces by aiding him.

Meg is still deep in the throes of her addiction to the euphoria she feels when she cuts and speaks prophecy. She knows each slice of her blade tempts death. But Others and humans alike need answers, and her visions may be Simon’s only hope of ending the conflict.

For the shadows of war are deepening across the Atlantik, and the prejudice of a fanatic faction is threatening to bring the battle right to Meg and Simon’s doorstep…

"Can you really turn into a wolf?" Robert asked.
"I'm always a Wolf," Simon replied. "Sometimes I shift to look human."
I strongly believe that Anne Bishop is an author of unparallelled skill and strength. Both her fantasy series and her urban fantasy are unlike anything I've read before. Every time I read her it feels like a revelation and I end up being completely engrossed in the plot, tense, jittery, slightly sick to my stomach, excited.

Erotic Romance Quickie Review: Nothing Between Us by Roni Loren

Nothing Between Us by Roni Loren (Loving on The Edge #6)

bought

Synopsis from Goodreads
From the New York Times bestselling author of Need You Tonight comes a steamy Loving on the Edge novel that proves watching is only half the fun…

Unlike the heroine of her popular thriller series, Georgia Delaune can’t afford to take risks or push sexual boundaries—unless you count spying through her neighbor’s bedroom window, and never missing a single move he makes.

Colby Wilkes is more than willing to put on a show for the alluring woman next door. But his dominant side aches to show her the pleasures of submission up close. As a counselor, Colby is sensitive to Georgia’s fears. As a Dom at The Ranch, a private BDSM retreat, he’s the perfect teacher to unleash her passion.

But just as Georgia lowers her emotional barriers, an unexpected complication arrives: a bad boy musician from Colby’s past who adds fuel to her heated imagination. Now, the lonely author has two gorgeous men eager to fulfill every fantasy she’s ever written—and one she’s never dared to dream…

This is a quickie, peeps. I was planning on a long discussion, but it's almost midnight, and I just ran out of time like a bloody Cinderella. *grins* Anyway...

Roni Loren is one of my three personal goddesses or erotic romance. Her heroes are alive, vulnerable, comfortable in their skin and unapologetic. Her heroines are extremely easy to relate to. They are normal women, who recognise that something inside them wants things to be a bit edgier, and they are brave enough to take the first step in the right direction.

The Postman Knock #113

Hey, everyone!
I am absutely shattered, we've been cleaning the well today, planting potatoes and cabbages. Can't move. :) Beginning of the week brought one of the worst gales I've ever seen. 66km an hour! It lasted 48 hours and one of our solar panels shuttered. Still seems to be working though. Scary stuff.
Anyway,
here is what I READ & LISTENED:

VISION IN SILVER & DEAD HEAT were absolutely awesome! Such outstanding reads! OF SILK AND STEAM was almost a five star read as well, and I'm glad Miss McMaster is back with the oomph I enjoy so much in her books. At last, THE DECOY PRINCESS I've listened on audio and it was a lovely, fun, easy adventure.

NETGALLEY:

CAN'T WAIT for this book! I love Acton and Doyle :)

FROM AUDIBLE:

Already listened to, and it was fun!

BOUGHT on AUDIO:

KINDLE FREEBIES:

Apparently, it's a very good Regency murder mystery series. Looking forward to reading it!

This is it, hugs from us both xoxo

Summary
Sometimes A + B = O. Yes. Oh, yes. Just like that.

Gabriella Evans’s life exists in terms of logic and definitions. She’s holed up in Portland, Maine, for the summer to work on her PhD thesis, but something is screwing up her concentration: the rumble of a motorcycle every time the embodiment of her rough-and-tumble fantasies rides down her street.

When her best friend talks her into a blind date, she finds herself out with the opposite of her fantasy. He’s polite and well-mannered, yet something behind his crisply tailored shirt doesn’t add up—a rebellious gleam in his eye that piques her curiosity.

Orphaned at fifteen, Connor Starks has finally put the years of failing grades, breaking laws and breaking hearts behind him. The only holdover? His penchant for getting down and dirty in public places. But Gabriella makes him want to prove he’s become a better man.

Nothing intrigues Gabriella more than a problem she can’t solve. But the more Connor tries to bury his past, the more determined she is to uncover it. And what she finds makes all her trusty logic begin to fail her…

Warning: This book contains a summer romance, dirty talk, dockside kissing, motorcycles and tattoos. Features a rebellious nerdy girl with an appetite for outdoor sex and light spanking, and a bad boy who’s turned good…or at least he’s trying.

This sounds absoutely delightful, and I'm  sucker for geeky romance! :)

I think I've got this on my kindle because of my love for all things Asian, but seriuosly, what's not to love about this synopsis?

Summary
Best friends, big fans, a mysterious webcomic, and a long-lost girl collide in this riveting novel, perfect for fans of both Cory Doctorow and Sarah Dessen; illustrated throughout with comics.

Once upon a time, two best friends created a princess together. Libby drew the pictures, May wrote the tales, and their heroine, Princess X, slayed all the dragons and scaled all the mountains their imaginations could conjure.

Once upon a few years later, Libby was in the car with her mom, driving across the Ballard Bridge on a rainy night. When the car went over the side, Libby passed away, and Princess X died with her.

Once upon a now: May is sixteen and lonely, wandering the streets of Seattle, when she sees a sticker slapped in a corner window.

Princess X?

When May looks around, she sees the Princess everywhere: Stickers. Patches. Graffiti. There's an entire underground culture, focused around a webcomic at IAmPrincessX.com. The more May explores the webcomic, the more she sees disturbing similarities between Libby's story and Princess X online. And that means that only one person could have started this phenomenon---her best friend, Libby, who lives.

Release date: May 26th 2015.

Yes, this is totally my type of read. What do you think, guys?

Summary

A lone witness finds her protector…

Since losing her sight in a childhood accident, Mia Danvers has resided in a small cottage on the vast Carrington estate. Thought to be dead, Mia lives a life of virtual seclusion—until one night, while walking home, she happens upon a horrendous crime.

Alex Foster, Eighth Duke of Carrington, lives according to society’s expectations for him. He’s never met the woman who lives in the cottage at the edge of his property. But when she arrives at his door in the pouring rain terrified and claiming she has witnessed a murder, she seizes his attention.

Mia is determined to help the authorities track down the culprit, even though the only person willing to accept her aid is the handsome, arrogant duke. Working closely together proves difficult as Mia’s beauty and independence tempts Alex to ignore convention and follow his desire. But what neither of them know is that this murderer has struck before in Whitechapel, taunting the British press only to vanish—a ruthless killer who knows that Mia is the only living witness to his crime…

I actually like romances, when one of the heroes struggles with a disability, and here there is an extra cherry on top - a mystery! I can't wait to dive in.

Summary
In Marla Klein and Ivy Wilde’s world, teens are the gatekeepers of culture. A top fashion label employs sixteen-year-old Marla to dictate hot new clothing trends, while Ivy, a teen pop star, popularizes the garments that Marla approves. Both girls are pawns in a calculated but seductive system of corporate control, and both begin to question their world’s aggressive levels of consumption. Will their new “eco-chic” trend subversively resist and overturn the industry that controls every part of their lives?
Smart, provocative, and entertaining, this thrilling page-turner for teens questions the cult like mentality of fame and fashion. Are you in or are you out?

Release date: May 5th 2015.

Well, this caught my eye as an unusual topic for a dystopia, but a very apt one. Curious to read it!

I have one word for you: DRAGONS! I need this. Why the hell it's not on kindle yet?!

When a vicious attack by Anglion’s ancient enemies leaves the kingdom in chaos, Sophia is forced to flee the court. I enjoyed reading M.J. Scott before, and this certainly feels like a fantasy with a potential to me.

Summary
 Queen Of The Unknown

The tales tell of three sisters, daughters of the high king. The eldest, a valiant warrior-woman, heir to the kingdom. The youngest, the sweet beauty with her Prince Charming. No one says much about the middle princess, Andromeda. Andi, the other one.

Andi doesn't mind being invisible. She enjoys the company of her horse more than court, and she has a way of blending into the shadows. Until the day she meets a strange man riding, who keeps company with wolves and ravens, who rules a land of shapeshifters and demons. A country she'd thought was no more than legend--until he claims her as its queen.

In a moment everything changes: Her father, the wise king, becomes a warlord, suspicious and strategic. Whispers call her dead mother a traitor and a witch. Andi doesn't know if her own instincts can be trusted, as visions appear to her and her body begins to rebel.

For Andi, the time to learn her true nature has come. . .

Okay, Grace Draven just recommended it, so for no other reason than that, I must read this fantasy. She said the hero was dark, and I do love an antihero ever so much!

So, this is it. Any of you read these books?Any of you want to try reading some? Talk to me!
Tchau xoxo

The story goes like this.

Warprize was mentioned on Dear Author along with Last Hour of Gann, and I decided to investigate what the hell they were talking about. While it's an absolutely different sub genre from what R.Lee Smith wrote, the main thread is the same: change is introduced to a rigid society with some very deep consequences, and we are invited to observe it.

Like all books by April White, Changing Nature rocked my socks. The closest comparison I can come up with for this paranormal fantasy is Deborah Harkness' trilogy,  although the witches here are replaced by Immortal Descendants with various talents.

The Postman Knock #112

Hello, me dears! Long time no see.
A quieter week this time which allowed us to finish digging the beds for planting, but now I am knackered.
I did better at reading and listening to books as well.

READ:

DIRTY CHICK is about a "glamorous" life of farmer in New Zealand, and it's super funny! Read my review hereTHE DIABOLICAL MISS HYDE was amazing, and I explained why here. I finished listening to NAAMAH'S CURSE at last, and it was a solid 4 star read.Only one book in this series left! :) CHANGING NATURE was fantastic, and I think it's really strong and innovative series in general. I only read one story from A VERY PARANORMAL HOLIDAY anthology which was provided by Susan Illene, and it was a heartwarming Christmas read. Really enjoyed it!

NETGALLEY:

I wanted to read this one for ages. Thanks to the publisher!

In case of zombie apocalypse

Hey, guys! I feel like I should say this just in case :)
If you'd like to sponsor a fellow book addict who sometimes can't sleep at night worrying that she won't have enough books to read if internet goes down in the event of zombie apocalypse (I'm convinced it's one of the top five ways to go for human race) you can donate through Paypal to olivesandacorns at gmail dot com or buy a book through any of the links provided with my reviews which will send me a small percentage from the sale. All proceeds will go towards my enormous TBR. I will also shelter you on the remote farm in Portugal when zombie apocalypse starts provided you survive getting there. There will be books, yay?
Thank you! Love you all
