Lair of Dreams like everything else Miss Bray writes is mind-bogling. It's big. It's insanely atmospheric and it's creeptastic.

If you ever read anything by Dean Koontz you know how well he does the state of quiet horror. Miss Bray is very much like him.

She slowly describes how New York succumbs to the sleeping sickness brought by a powerful ghost haunting the dreamscapes of the city.

At the same time Evie is enjoying her newfound fame as Sweetheart Seer, Sam &Jericho continue their uphill battle to save the museum, Theta and Henry devise their own claim to success. Henry desperately combs through dreams to find his dearest friend Luis, and instead stumbles to another dreamwalker, Ling. At last, Memphis is given his enormous healing power back.

So, the set of Heroes is established. Now we are given a myriad different ways and secrets which intertwine them until at last our characters are forcefully bound together to battle the dream monster.

The world keeps expanding with the help of juicy little tidbits. Here are the singular lives lost to the sleeping sickness, here are Sam and Evie's attempts to find his mother. Here are glimpses of Evie's uncle traversing the countryside on a wild hunt after the man in a tall hat. Here are two sinister government agents with even more sinister goals...

Unexpected relationship, tremendous tension and buildup to a grand finale, and at last absolutely gorgeous language, which makes this book such a lush read. The characters are completely immersed to the buzz and swell of the era and they are "posi-tut-ly"authentic and marvellous.

Overall, a fabulous read! It requires work and attention, but in the end it's all worth it. Please, read the whole series.
