The Postman Knock #19

Hello, everyone!
It's sunny here and I feel much happier. The spring is much closer than anyone thought. :)
How are you today?

Very slow week for me reading-wise.
I've READ:

SHIFTING DREAMS I really enjoyed. Such a sweet and lovely story. Elizabeth stayed away from shifters cliches in paranormal romance and instead concentrated on normal realistic human relationships with a murder mystery twist. A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES was phenomenal! Super long book - it took me two weeks to read it, but I immediately wanted to start reading book #2 after I finished the story. You know what it reminds me of? The epicness of Diana Gabaldon. It's rich, juicy and simply gorgeous.

FOR REVIEW:

Thanks to Imran Siddiq who allowed Hannah from Once Upon A Time to send the book to reviewers who were interested in Disconnect, and thanks to Garrett Calcaterra who found me on Goodreads after I've added his book to my TBR. Both books look really interesting.

WON:

Thanks to lovely Book Angel Emma who hosts some awesome UK giveaways on her blog!

LIBRARY:
It went a little mad because most of my reservations came this week...

This is it for my book haul.

There were some awesome posts on the blog this week:

I'm hosting an amazing mini blog hop and giving away books (INT) with delicious bad boys in them to celebrate Valentine my way :) Go and enter!

I've also talked about some exciting upcoming releases for this year in my Dreaming of Books feature.

At last, Preston Norton, the author of Blud and Magick discussed his Top 10 Horror Movies of All Times.  He is giving away his book as well. (INT)

SMALL RANT: Unfortunately not all the authors strive for originality. I apologize in advance, but I have 2 in the upcoming weeks who didn't go with the original ideas for a guest post  I suggested and went instead with promo materials they've already been using on other blogs. I've only noticed it this week, and I feel really uncomfortable refusing to host a guest post now.  So I will try to post something else on the days they  are scheduled for, however, regurgitating the same material for each blog they work with doesn't do them any favors :( It's just not productive and doesn't produce any traffic. END of RANT.

This is it. Argue less, read more, stress less, love more.
Happy Sunday!

  1. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed A Discovery of Witches. It's been in my Nook for SO LONG. I'll get to it someday when I feel like reading an epically long book.

I also got Etiquette and Espionage from the library this week! I'm not too far into yet (I've been juggling multiple books at once lately) but I really love the writing, and the names crack me up!

  2. I have a friend who has been bugging me to read A Discover of Witches for ages...sounds like I might need to give in soon! But again it is the length of the book that scares me off...

  3. Oh I hate that. I have had those kind of posts too and it have felt so silly cos it has been posts I have seen on several blogs :/

  4. I didn't realise Skylark was out over here now. It starts off a bit generic but I loved it by the end.

  5. Great haul! So many good looking books, Skylark looks amazing! And I have to start on Carriger's books soon!

    Happy reading :)

  7. I started A Discovery of Witches but never actually finished it and now I'm wondering if I've really missed out by not persevering. Eeeek!!

  8. Bekka, I've started it too, and it's funny and very entertaining so far! :)

Mel, you should read it. Just do it in chunks. Only read it when you travel. It will take you a long time but you still can read other books when you are at home.

Blodeuedd, sometimes I despair! This is a first rule of a successful blog post - original content. Why they wouldn't do that I can't get.

Ellie, yes it's out here and I can't wait to read it!

Ula, you definitely should. They are fun. :)

Mel@The Daily prophecy, I was lured by the promise of a good villain in The Taken and by all the spies in Carriger book :)

Lesly, it's alright. It's not for everyone. We all have different taste. I just loved this one!

  9. OOh nice! Etiquette and Espionage was an interesting read. I liked it, but didn't really love it right away.

I still need to read The Taken myself! Every time I plan on reading a particular book, another gets in the way!

    Happy Reading!

    Here's my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

  11. Jessica, that's usually the problem: you have to really put your review books aside to read something for yourself :)

Dehlia, Deborah'sbook is really good, and the main character is French ;) Hope you like it!

  13. Hi, Kara-Karina!

I really appreciate your stopping by and commenting on my own haul!

And you have a GREAT one!! All of these books are new to me, except for "A Discovery of Witches", which I've been meaning to get to, and "Etiquette Espionage", which I've seen on a couple of other blogs. The others look very interesting!

Siddiq and Calcaterra were so nice to send you their books for review! I'm going to check out those books on Goodreads. Oh, and I LOVE the cover of "The Blessed"! I don't think I've ever seen such a GORGEOUS tattoo!!

Thanks for sharing your haul, and thanks as well for the Foo Fighters video, which I listened to as I commented!

Happy Sunday, and Happy Reading!! :)

  15. Hi, again! You're most welcome for my comment! I must definitely get to "A Discovery of Witches" this year! I've read several VERY positive reviews of it.

BTW, I've just bought "The Blessed" on eBay!! I knew I wouldn't be able to resist...lol. That cover REALLY did it for me! I made sure to buy that particular edition; the other cover is really BLAH. Before buying it, though, I looked it up on Goodreads. I liked the synopsis, so now the book will be coming, from the U.K. Thanks for featuring it!!

    Hugs back!! :)

  18. Oooh, glad to see the self-pub with a beautiful cover is good inside too!

Oh, and, I really liked A Discovery of Witches, but their relationship dynamics went way too Twilight for me in Shadow of Night.

  20. Maria, I find US cover a bit spooky so I prefer UK cover too. Hope we both like it! ;)

Carrie, I wasn't sure too, but so far it's not bad. Feels lke murder mystery book. Plus her dress! I love it ;)

Kimba, thanks! I hope I will like them both! The Taken is not bad so far. Not what I've expected...

Christina, I've noticed a slight tendency to that in the first book, but I'll tell you for sure with the second. Time travel lures me to it too much! :D

    Melissa, you too!
