The Postman Knock #17

Hello, everyone!
Have you seen the news about The Vampire Academy cast?
I'm feeling very smug because I suggested Danila for Dimka few years ago on VA Facebook, but everyone was fawning over Ben Barnes at the time *shrug*
I'd rather a Russian play a Russian. Nothing worse than fake accents...
Plus, look at this goodness!

Anyway, here s what I've READ:

KUSHIEL'S SCION was gorgeous. I enjoy Jacqueline Carey's books enormously and will be reading them until I catch up with the last one! THE NATIVE STAR was an excellent, fun read, a bit steampunkish, a bit Western and all magic.  I'm definitely continuing with this series.
Not much, I know, but I have a cunning plan...

I have a backlog of 22 reviews that need to be written, so while I'm doing it I'm reading the longest books in my TBR, otherwise I would never catch up.

BOUGHT:

LIBRARY:

I'm currently reading Margaret Atwood, and my god, what a chilling book! We should include it in our schools' curriculum so people would remember what religious fanaticism and fundamentalism can lead to. I suspect I will have to go back and read all books Atwood has ever written...

FOR REVIEW:

Sonya contacted me because I reviewed and loved her first book in this series in 2011. She just revamped the covers because publishing rights at last returned to her, and I can only say YAY!  These are tough psychological thrillers full of nasty underground fights, and they all used to have covers like bad paranormal romances... I can not wait to dig into the book two!

This is it for my book haul. How was yours?

In other news, please come and say hello to Andy Gavin who is giving away Untimed - a book I loved and recommended to everyone in the beginning of the week (INT)!

I am still looking for authors and bloggers interested in my Antihero Valentine blog hop. Come and join us!

I can not not mention an amazing trivia game which my husband found online last week.  It gives 10 grains of rice to the poor for every right answer, so not only it improves your knowledge of things, but it helps a charity. Please give it a go or at least spread the word.

Online game to end hunger

Happy Sunday, everyone!

  1. Apropos longest book - I am currently chewing on "IT" by Stephen King. That's a tome, let me tell ya!
Oh and I have "The Handmade's Tale" on my radar too!!

  2. I'm behind in my review writing as well, but I only have 5 to write! I want to build up a bank of reviews so I can read some big books as well - especially the Game of Thrones series!

  3. I need to read the carey series about Imriel. I hope you'll enjoy your new books, happy reading!

  4. 22 reviews?! Oh I'd totally freak out if I had that many to write - it just gets so overwhelming at times.

Hurrah for big books *hugs them*

  5. They are making VA into something now too?! Ugh, I got so annoyed by a certain main character

  6. Ooh nice haul! Haven't read those myself but heard good things about the Discovery of Witches! Also read The Handmaid's Tale in one of my college classes a few years ago, it was probably one of the better books I had to read. For being an English major I am extremely picky about my classics!

    Hope you enjoy them all!

    Here's my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

  7. The Handmaid's Tale is one of my favourite books! She has written a lot and it all sounds quite varied; I have enjoyed everything I've read of hers so far, but hardly made a dent!

I love the world in Discovery of Witches, it's very in-depth and love all the history bits. I was trying to find intel on when the 3rd book will be out...

22 reviews?! I'm glad I'm not that far behind. I have most the October Daye books to write about (but they are personal reads so can just write fluff...how much I love Tybalt, etc etc), 1 meh book from last year and this weekend's reading. Think I am nearly there with catching up!

  8. Lovely haul, K. I've not read A Discovery of Witches yet just for the simple fact that it's ginormous! good things, good things all around. I'm so psyched about the actors they've picked for VA! Super, super psyched.

    Have a great week.

  9. Ben Barnes would be amazing but I agree, better if a Russian plays a Russian :) Danila does not look all that bad :)
Great haul, I'd love to get The Diviners myself. Discovery of Witches looks pretty amazing as well.

    Enjoy your books!

Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

  12. I used to play Free Rice often but forget all about it. Evil woman, like I need more time wasters. :D Still, it is a good cause.

The Handmaid's Tale is a chilling book indeed though I'm not keen on that cover. I think it's time for a re-read.

That picture of Danila - RAWR! I'm convinced. :D

I approve of your cunning plan, good luck with it!

  13. The rule to live by for a blogging book addict is that you cannot read another book till you finish the review of the book you just finished..otherwise they pile up on you and the task is daunting. Squee you got Discovery of Witches..i loved that one!

  14. Birgit, I would love to see what you'd think of the Handmaid's Tale. I am enjoying it!

Mel, I ave up on that, because I just don't have that much time and I still want to read something I enjoy before bed :) So one-two reviews written ahead is the best I can do ;(

    D. it's gorgeous. I'm enjoying Imriel's story very much!

Kat, I just take it one day at a time :)

Blodeuedd, I only like Rose when she is fighting :D

    Jessica, thanks! I can't wait!

Ellie, only 2-3 reviews are for the publishers the rest are my personal reads, so I'm not worried. I only do what I can, because I don't want blogging to turn into a chore.

J., that's why I'm reading it now. I've got plenty of time LOL

Ula Barnes as Russian would piss me off so much, I'm glad he is not doing Dimka :)

    Heather, Michelle, thank you!

Bea, thanks! And surely for such a noble cause this is not a wasted time ;)
I feel like RAWR looking at that pic too...

Kimba, I can't! I am a procrastinator at heart. Me and such schedule are not meant to be...
