Kiss The Dead by Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #21)

library copy

Synopsis from Goodreads
When a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it’s up to U.S. Marshal Anita Blake to find her. And when she does, she’s faced with something she’s never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people—kids, grandparents, soccer moms—all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master. And where there’s one martyr, there will be more. But even vampires have monsters that they’re afraid of. And Anita is one of them...

OMG, what garbage! I think this is the last book of LKH I will ever read. I thought Flirt was her worst book, as I gave it 0 out of 10 rating, but this is seriously close...

There is no plot. There are token situations which regurgitate LKH previous books. Token hate from police, - check. Token explanation of her messy love life, - check. Token jealousy of Asher, - check. Token fear for her and petulance of her child lover who replaced grown up Nataniel on the bottom of her food chain, - check. Token ma petite,  - check. Token people thinking that Anita is a monster, - check.

I'm so tired of the series going nowhere for so many years already, I just can't do it anymore. She's done, finished as a writer or sick of this series herself, because there is literally nothing new. Everything in this book can be found in previous ones. It feels like copy and paste job sometimes.

The only way you'll get through Kiss The Dead is by playing drinking game. By the end of it you'll be drunk as skunk and very hazy on the details.

Not recommended to anyone.

  1. Lol you're mless nice than me. I agree with your review but I still think it was OK. Not really good but OK. The start was really good for me but after that well... I'm sorry it was like that for you. I still keep hope (yeah after so many books, I know).

  2. That's what I was thinking after Hit List, Dehlia. Unfortunately Kiss The Dead made me realise that Anita will not get he just doesn't have it in her anymore... Sad, but I will not read this series anymore. I'll be reading your reviews instead :D

  3. I got as far as The Harlequin and I think I have some of the others but am pretty fed up with the series now. They just seem to be lacking decent plots and go over the same stuff again and again. It doesn't sound like they've got better (I did wonder as she still seems to be selling well). it6's a shame as I loved the earlier books in the series which were more urban fantasy crime.

  4. OH SNAP. You told her. I've not gotten very far in this series; four books I think, still before it went way crazy. I like them, but maybe I should just stop where I am, because I have difficulty quitting once I've gotten to a certain point.

Did you read her Merry Gentry books? Those are freaking ridiculous. I gave up on those when Merry got impregnated by 6 men, since Hamilton clearly did not want to have to choose just one. *headdesks so hard a concussion is a concern*

  6. Oh dear.... I have not read any of this series, and now I'm not sure I want to start it! I do have the first couple of books, so I'll give them a try. I'm sorry this one wasn't enjoyable (at all!)

  7. You were brave to even try kara! I gave up a while ago. I used to but all her books, then I switched to getting them from the library, then I gave up completely. When I purged my books recently, I gave away all of my LKH books.

  8. Well done for trying! I personally enjoyed this a bit, but agreed in that it was plotless. I'm still upset at the fact that she made Anita sexual in the first place-and I'm gladt that this one wasn't p4wn from start to end. This is a series that's gone on far too long now.
