Death's Hand by S.M. Reine REVIEW

Death's Hand by S.M. Reine (Descent #1)

free read

Synopsis from Goodreads
Policing relations between Heaven, Hell, and Earth is messy and violent, but Elise Kavanagh and James Faulkner excelled at it-- until coming across a job so brutal that even they couldn't stand to see one more dead body.

Now they've been pretending to be normal for five years, leaving their horrific history a dark secret. Elise works in an office. James owns a business. None of their friends realise they used to be one of the world's best killing teams.

After years of hiding, something stirs. Bodies are vanishing. Demons scurry in the shadows of the night. A child has been possessed.

Some enemies aren't willing to let the secrets of the past stay dead...

I'm going to be short in this review. I'm a great fan of Constantine, which is why I loved the idea of Elise - a lone exorcist who works as an accountant for demons and tries to bury her past.

However, the book despite excellent action scenes, and there is a lot of them, lacks wholesomeness of the plot. Many chapters are disjointed and remind me of a puzzle with some of the pieces lost. That's no good, because in the end Death's Hand is reduced to a collection of vivid pictures - interesting in their own right, but not making much sense if you put them all together.

6.5/10

  1. I haven't been all that impressed with the book either, I mean it isn't bad, but neither is it great! Have you read "Six Moon Summer" and its sequel by the author? I really enjoyed those!
